Plitvice Lakes is the first national park in Croatia founded in 1949, and since 1979 it is under the protection of UNESCO as one of the world's heritages. It covers an area of 296.85 km2, between the mountains of Mala Kapela and Pleshivica, near the road that connects Zagreb and Dalmatia.

There are 16 lakes in the national park created by natural dams which are recognizable by changing the color from the heavenly blue, light green, to the uniquely gray color. The highest waterfall is the Great Slap at a height of 70 meters and it is one of the most beautiful sights in the park.

Each year, the park is visited by more than 1.1 million visitors. The entrance varies, and reaches up to 28 euros in the peak of the season.
